Breakdown:
Have you ever watched Cake Boss and Cut Throat Kitchen on the Food Network? Well prepare yourself for the two worlds to collide; introducing “Survivor Cake Boss Challenge”. The purpose of the of event is to introduce a little team building fun into the final event as we close off this year’s United Way Campaign. The “Survivor Cake Boss Challenge” can host a total of ten teams. Each team is required to have a minimum of at least 5 participants and a maximum of 10. Teams will only have 2 hours to decorate the cake, before our judges will judge the cakes. The cakes will be judged on the categories:

2. Originality  (30 pts)

Team Sizes:
-Teams may be a minimum of 5 members, with a maximum of 10 members

Rules of Engagement:
Teams are required to build a Canadian Theme cake with fondant. You will be provided with the basic tools, which we will call “BASIC NECESSITIES”. They include:
• A sheet of cake that is 10”x 16”
• A 4 lb bucket of white fondant
• Food Gel Coloring (4 basic colours)
• A butter knife
• Icing sugar (for the fondant)
• Coconut oil (2tbs)
• Apron
• 1 pair of plastic gloves.
Again, you will only have two hours to make the most Canadian Cake you can think of. But how is this possible you ask. I don’t have much to work on. Well, there are ways to help you out.

Teams have two ways of gaining advantages:
1) On the day of the event, teams can purchase special tools from our shop called “The Toolshed Eh!”. Unlike our basic essentials, these tools from the toolshed are “PROFESSIONAL” grade. For example:
a. A proper cake knife
b. A cake server
c. Cookie Cutter
d. Mystery Tools (you will see when you get there)
The tools are meant to give you a competitive edge over other team when decorating your cake and should get you to the finish line faster.

2) Sabotage Coins. Here is where it gets interesting. Your next competitive challenge is the sabotage coins. These coins are meant to temporarily cripple your opponents from completing their cakes on time; giving them challenges and hurdles to conquer before time runs out. But just to be clear, the sabotage coins are only meant to delay and not destroy their work. The sabotage coins are:
a. Tool Time Out
b. Tool Swap
c. Team Mate Swap
d. Full Team Time Out
e. Life Saver (in order to save yourself from sabotage, you must answer a Canadian Trivia)
f. IMMUNITY
Use them wisely because you never know what the other teams have!

How to get sabotage coins?
Two ways to get sabotage coins
1) Donation through GiveEffect: When a team is registered for the Survivor Cake Boss Challenge, they will be given a GiveEffect site address, where they can raise money within their own network of family and friends. In order to get sabotage coins, each team will be required to reach certain milestones. Each milestones you reach, gets your more and better sabotage coins. Obviously, the highest milestone will have the greatest advantage. Here are the milestone:

* Please Note: Sabotage Coin Funds are SEPERATE from your registration costs*

Category Milestone Sabotage Coins

2) Spectator help: The teams are not allowed to purchase any sabotage coins, however, spectators for the event can. Team may approach the crowd to ask for donations to purchase sabotage coins. Not all sabotage coins can be purchased, but this game is about survival of the fittest. Get what you need. The audience may purchase sabotage coins from our Survivor judges and donate it to whichever team they choose to. But they must hurry; time will be running low when spectators start to come in.

Official stop time: 4:00 pm
Teams are to stop decorating the cake at 4:00 pm. Failure to do so will result in point deduction.

Cake Judging:
At 4:00 pm sharp, contestants are to stop all decorating activities and judges will start to go around judging each cake. The cakes will be judged on four main categories:
1. Theme (most Canadian)  (35 pts)
2. Originality  (30 pts)
3. Overall Teamwork  (25 pts)
4. Technique  (10pts)

Champion:
Winner of the Cake Decorating Challenge will receive medals and claim all other contestant’s rolling pin as a sign of domination.
